Frozen custard, donuts on Route 66

 



Two businesses on Route 66 in St. Louis, Missouri, offering sweet treats have a following that’s “world-wide” because they are the “best.” 

Ted Drewes Frozen Custard and the Donut Drive-In in St. Louis are down the road from each other on Chippewa Street (Route 66) in St. Louis. 

Ted Drewes opened in 1941 on Route 66 and is known for its “World famous frozen custard.” 

The Donut Drive-In opened in 1953 and was voted “best donuts on Route 66” by Food Network.

A backyard of freshly fallen snow. Snow can symbolize “purity of heart.” Enduring love and devotion comes from a pure heart? Yes.

Straw bale-writing. learning

  Sharing other people’s stories with readers helps me as a writer to learn, too. Nearly ten years ago, I wrote a story about a young adult who grew luscious tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers and more -- on straw bales. At the time, my husband and I had settled into our home that has over an acre of land, but no garden because of various concerns (bad soil, deer, trees). We tried straw bale gardening, and it was an explosive success. This year, my husband bought a couple of straw bales in which we’ll plant cherry tomatoes and peppers. Here’s to spring.
