‘Roads, River, Rooms, and Reels’ tribute

 



A new exhibit in St. Louis, Missouri, is featuring things in the area that “used to be” on Route 66.

The National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis will exhibit through the second week in October 2026 its “Roads, River, Rooms, and Reels” tribute to Route 66.

Route 66 is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, and The National Museum of Transportation is helping to note the milestone by its special exhibit that features modes of transportation and entertainment along the Mother Road that no longer exist: the riverboat SS Admiral, the “66” Park In Theatre and Coral Court Motel.

The “Roads, River, Rooms, and Reels” exhibit is in the museum’s William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education and Visitor Center, for the most part.

Vintage cars are in the Earl C. Lindburg Automobile Center.

A backyard of freshly fallen snow. Snow can symbolize “purity of heart.” Enduring love and devotion comes from a pure heart? Yes.

Straw bale-writing. learning

  Sharing other people’s stories with readers helps me as a writer to learn, too. Nearly ten years ago, I wrote a story about a young adult who grew luscious tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers and more -- on straw bales. At the time, my husband and I had settled into our home that has over an acre of land, but no garden because of various concerns (bad soil, deer, trees). We tried straw bale gardening, and it was an explosive success. This year, my husband bought a couple of straw bales in which we’ll plant cherry tomatoes and peppers. Here’s to spring.
