‘Osage Trail Legacy’ depicts westward movement on Route 66

A 35-foot metal sculpture “Osage Trail Legacy” in Cuba, Missouri, displays an Osage Nation chief, mother and baby, young daughter and a domesticated red wolf, encircled by a walking park.

The sculpture is at the Cuba Visitor Center, 71 State Highway P, Exit 208 off Interstate 44.

Informational plaques surrounding the sculpture describe the Osage Nation’s:

 n  Roots in Missouri

n  Hunting and trading that left trails that became Route 66 and Interstate 44

n  Forced movement to Oklahoma Indian Territory

 There’s more here.
