Mother Road signs moving on Route 66
It’s that simple.
Or one would think.
The historic 1926-commissioned route originally began in Chicago at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Michigan Avenue.
Today, there are “begin” signs at Adams Street near Michigan Avenue, across from the Art Institute of Chicago, plus a symbolic sign at Navy Pier.
The classic Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant & Bakery, at 565 W. Jackson Boulevard, is closest to the official start of Route 66.
